Το Ταμείο Θήρας ιδρύθηκε το 1990 με το Νόμο 158/90, αντικαθιστώντας την Υπηρεσία Θήρας και Πανίδας, με σκοπό την προστασία, ανάπτυξη, έρευνα και ορθολογική διαχείριση των θηραμάτων και των άλλων ειδών της κυπριακής πανίδας αλλά και προς εξύψωση του αθλήματος του κυνηγίου.
